Pregnancy and COVID19: Should I be concerned?

In these moments when the situation caused by the COVID-19 It has disrupted everyone’s lives, at IVI we are very aware of the special circumstances in which our patients find themselves. Many had to stop treatment, and little by little we are resuming it, but some also managed to get pregnant shortly before confinement. A moment so desired that when arriving in this situation of global health crisis can cause doubts or fears about how to face it. We wanted to ask the team of the IVI Emotional Support Unit that they give us the keys to face a pregnancy in this stage COVID

If you are pregnant, first of all, congratulations, remember that you are very lucky to have reached your pregnancy. Enjoy this beautiful feeling and think how long you have been wanting it. You probably think you were “unlucky” that COVID-19 came at this very special time for you. It is true, but also think that we have all been taken by surprise. This is the moment that your little one has chosen to come into this world. For this same circumstance, it is growing in a cleaner world, less polluted, and, above all, more humane and committed. This will also make you special.
We all feel a certain fear these days. When it appears, it is important to accept it as part of our experience of the current situation but not get carried away by it. We have to take care of ourselves.
If the fear is related to the evolution of your pregnancy, focus on the HERE AND NOW: Today you are fine and your pregnancy continues, this is the important thing. Every day that goes by is a day that we win at the wrong time. We will reach the end
At the moment, it has not been scientifically proven that pregnant women are more susceptible to contagion of the coronavirus. And the data, not yet conclusive, suggest that there is no intrauterine contagion. Everything will be fine
From this point, bring your mind closer positive thoughts, it will make you feel better. Think about everything that is happening in your body and connect with your little one. If you feel like it, write down all these thoughts and collect them as a little treasure to return to whenever you need. Think of all that you have left to live … A sweet smile will emerge from within.
If you like to write, make a diary or a little story in which you collect how were your first months with your little one, it can become a nice gift for your child. You will like to share it with him in the future.
Find a song that you like, that is especially meaningful to you, and make it your anthem these days. Your little one will surely like it when he is born too.
Keys to coping with a pregnancy in COVID times
Take care of yourself and so you will also take care of your little one, follow the recommendations to avoid contagion. And especially in your situation, remember to avoid total sedentary lifestyle, a little gentle exercise at home or daily walks will help you.
Also take care of your diet: Anxiety or being “with nothing to do” contribute to increasing what we eat, in addition to inviting us to do more with foods with too much sugar. Remember that at this time it is especially important. Be imaginative. Now that you may have more time to cook, look for rich and healthy recipes to help you with this task.
Acknowledge all your feelings and embrace them. Sharing them with the people closest to you can help you! It is very likely that they are going through similar emotions. You can share all these tips and build your little one’s story together.
Stay distracted as much as possible, community initiatives or the kind caring for others, will make you feel good.
And remember that before any doubt or fear, you have the IVI Emotional Support Unit to help you.
