There are many of you who have had to stop your treatments of Assisted reproduction because of the pandemic caused by the COVID-19. And there have been many who have asked us, throughout this confinement time, about the return to treatments of fertility. Two weeks ago we already talked to you in our Blog of the urgency to resume treatment as soon as possible and, fortunately, today we can confirm that all fertility clinics IVI they reopen their doors in Spain. It will be a return to progressive activity, in which we will evaluate each case in particular and above all we will take the necessary safety and prevention measures to protect both the health of our patients and our staff.
When the state of alarm by the Government, on March 14, our clinics decided to close their doors, mainly to help stop the contagion in both our patients and our employees, to be able to transfer our material to Public Health and to make our facilities available in cases of general collapse of our public hospitals. Bend the curve and with the numbers of the pandemic receding, after several demonstrations, both ours and the highest scientific authorities of our country in the field of gynecology and fertility, including the SEF, the Ministry of Health posted a resolution last Friday, April 24, which, as it literally concludes, “Assumes that the centers and services of assisted human reproduction they are authorized to open ”.
Security and prevention measures against COVID19
Each IVI clinic will individually contact the patients who have suspended treatment. For those who come to the clinic, very strict rules of action will be established to avoid the influx of symptomatic patients to our centers. One of our maxims at IVI, has always been the achievement of healthy babies and, to the already strict security and control protocols, we are going to add all relevant safety measures recommended to minimize contagion risks. This way before, if you are patient before coming to the clinic you should know that:
- Do not go if you have had or have a fever, cough or any respiratory symptoms in the last fourteen days, and inform your doctor. From IVI we will follow your evolution and we will give you a new appointment.
- Do not go if you have been in contact with someone with a diagnosis or suspicion of COVID-19 in the last fourteen days.
- As far as you can, try to come unaccompanied.
- Be punctual, Sticking to your appointment time so you don’t have to wait a long time and come with a mask.
Once at the clinic, the temperature will be measured and, if the patient has more than 37.5 degrees, a change of appointment will be made. Masks will be provided to patients if they do not have them, they will be asked to dispose of the gloves if they bring them from outside, doses of sanitizing gel will be provided, and the safety distances will be remembered and indicated in all areas of the clinic, among others.
Will I be tested for COVID-19?
In addition to the aforementioned prevention measures, At the beginning of the treatment, a serology will be performed on all the patients to know their immunological status regarding the Coronavirus, to know if you have COVID-19 antibodies or not, that is, if they have passed the disease. And before any puncture, insemination or embryo transfer, a PCR test will be carried out, taking a nasopharyngeal sample, to avoid any risk of contagion. during the procedure and to check that in the moment prior to all the actions described the patient is not infected.
