COVID19 has suspended my treatment, what can I do?
- The feeling of worry is normal
- Our Emotional Support team give you the keys to live this situation and resume the processes in the best state of mind
COVID19 and assisted reproduction. In these moments when the world health situation has changed everyone’s lives, at IVI we are very aware of the special circumstances in which our patients find themselves. The declaration of the State of Alarm has caused many of you to have to stop or postpone your maternity project. We too are sorry that it had to be that way. We are aware of the desire that you have to be parents and the effort that has taken to get here for you.
We wanted to consult our IVI Psychology team so that they could give us advice on how to deal with this situation in the best possible way and especially, how to prepare to resume assisted reproduction treatments as soon as possible.
I feel worried, is it normal?
It is possible that you feel anguished or scared or perhaps angry in this circumstance and that you have thought at some point that “that’s not fair” or what has really been “bad luck”. It is normal to think and feel like this. But you don’t get carried away. Remember that the decision made is the best one for these special circumstances. It is only a postponement in your gestational desire, but it is for the good of that future boy or girl who are to come, to ensure the best possible conditions for your pregnancy and your future baby.
Know that our Emotional Support Unit is at your disposal to help you spend this time in the best possible way and that is why they wanted to prepare a series of tips to deal with the interruption in the best possible way and prepare to resume treatment as soon as possible.
What can I do until I start treatment again?
We are experiencing an unexpected and difficult situation, but temporary. Now we have to paralyze our life and our projects, but everything will pass. While that desired moment arrives, we leave you some tips that can help you to better carry the wait
- We are all going through difficult times. The world has stopped. It is not only this project that has been interrupted. In your work, your family, your outings … the same thing has happened. Understand the stop in treatment as one more of the many parentheses that you have had to do in your life. Taking it back will only be a matter of time.
- Thoughts of how “If I had done it before …” or “what will happen in the future”, “how long will this be”, and “if by then I have no money, work …”. It is normal to think all this. NeverthelessIt will not be useful to you, nor will it help you to stay there. Live the present, the HERE and NOW. Nobody knows “until when” or “what would have happened if …”. Accept that these thoughts and emotions are normal, and try to focus on living your day to day as well as possible, look for activities that entertain and help you, plan and organize your day and day and stay active. The future will come and the past is already gone.
- Take advantage of this time to take care of you. Eat healthy, sleep, rest, practice meditation, enjoy the little things that at other times, with our fast pace, we do not allow ourselves to do. How many times have we thought … “If I had time I would …” Now you have it, enjoy it!
- You surely think that you are delaying the whole process again, that time goes against you again. It will only be a matter of months and there won’t be a big difference in your ovarian response from delaying treatment. Use the thought that this it’s a temporary situation
- In the meantime, take care of yourself and yours. Follow the sanitary recommendations of the Ministry of Health:
- Wash your hands
- Stay at home
- Wear gloves and a mask when indicated.
- And if it has infected you, follow the recommendations of your doctor to recover and overcome the disease.
- It is important that you finish this period healthy and strong to resume your project of being a mother or father as soon as possible.
- Also take care of your diet: anxiety or being “with nothing to do” contribute to increasing what we eat, in addition to inviting us to eat foods with too much sugar. Remember that it is important to eat well for your future pregnancy. Be imaginative. Now that you may have more time to cook, look for rich and healthy recipes to help you with this task.
- Acknowledge all your feelings and embrace them. Sharing them with the people closest to you can help you! It is very likely that they are going through similar emotions.
- Stay distracted as far as possible, community initiatives or the type of caring for others, will make you feel good.
We have to take advantage of this stage to take care of ourselves because as our video says, when everything is over, we will be born again.
In the next few days we will suggest recommendations that will help you take care of yourself, take care of yours and turn this time into an opportunity to learn and grow and prepare for when that dream of being a mother comes true.
Always keep in mind that … “The best is yet to come“
