Health Minister Osagie Ehanire said in a statement that a committee was formed to select the most suitable for Nigeria from the vaccines developed against COVID-19.
Ehanire stated that since different temperatures are required to protect the vaccines, they should choose the most suitable vaccine among the available vaccines and that the vaccines will be received in January 2021.
Stating that Nigeria has ordered vaccines to the Global Vaccine Alliance Initiative (GAVI), Ehanire stated that they are also registered in the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access Program (COVAX), which is carried out in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) .
Ehanire previously announced that the government will receive 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
While more than 75 thousand COVID-19 cases have been seen in Nigeria so far, 1200 people have died due to the virus .
Director of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Dr. John Nkengasong said in a statement last month that vaccination in Africa may not begin until the second quarter of 2021, and that vaccines need cold stores will be the biggest challenge for the continent.
