IVI presents the first guide for families of two mothers
The appearance of new family models is a reality that is increasingly present in our society. A reality that IVI, throughout its 30-year history, can be proud of, having helped many women to start a family.
Today motherhood knows no limits or conditions, that is one of the reasons why, in Spain, we have been able to observe a growing increase in the number of couples of two women with children. In the last year alone, the number of couples formed by two women who have decided to resort to assisted reproduction has increased by 23%, a figure that will surely increase in the coming years
This increase has, without a doubt, its origin in the visibility and normalization of family diversity in society, although it is also enhanced by the fact that it is an essential requirement to register the children of two women in the Civil Registry, except in some autonomous communities such as Catalonia.
In this sense, the objective of IVI is none other than to try to adapt to this evolution and make the best options available to any woman and couple to fulfill their desire to be a mother. And the best way to achieve this is to improve every day, knowing their needs in detail and looking for a way to satisfy them from all the areas that make up our centers, always moving forward together, so that patients feel that this path to motherhood is shared.
Momstwo: guide for families of two moms
With this objective in mind, it has presented in Barcelona, in an event held in the Ailike space, “Mamás²: Guide for families of two mothers”, a document that was created with a clear goal: to help those couples of women who are or are considering becoming mothers and they have doubts about the process to follow, legislative aspects, when to tell their loved ones, and even when to reveal their origins to their children.
In addition, it has real testimonies of other couples of women who have embarked together on the adventure of motherhood, stories of courage, improvement and determination that its protagonists have decided to share with other couples of women who, like them, share the illusion of be mothers together.
The presentation of the guide, moderated by the journalist and writer Carme Chaparro, has had the participation of the influencer Alba Paúl; the head of the IVI Barcelona Psychology Unit, Diana Guerra; Carla Montaner, IVI patient; and Marta Fernández, founder and CEO of LesWorking (international professional network for lesbian women @lesnetworking).
The guide is another step forward from IVI to show that patient support is key in every way, from the moment they walk through the door they have a helping hand to resolve any issue and shed light on their greatest uncertainties.
IVI intends that this guide is a fundamental support point for all couples of women who find themselves in this situation, and that from it they have all the necessary information to choose the best way to create their family model. Because being a mother is a free decision that any woman must make with enough tools and all the help at her disposal to make this journey an unforgettable experience.
