Patient safety: IVI’s DNA

Patient safety: IVI’s DNA

Today the World Patient Safety Day. From the beginning, IVI has been working and developing a whole series of measures in its processes and in the clinics to be able to make the process towards motherhood a safe process.

What is patient safety?

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as the discipline that is responsible for preventing and reducing risks, errors and harm suffered by patients during the provision of health care.

Patient safety is essential to provide quality health services, these services must be effective and safe and, above all, must be people-centered.

Of course, these basic principles fully apply to assisted reproductive treatments, and in this medical discipline, IVI has been introducing

How do we approach patient safety at IVI?

At IVI clinics we work every day so that each of our patients can achieve their dream of being a mother, that is our main objective, but always with maximum peace of mind. What are our pillars to achieve it? We basically work on these three:

  • exceptional clinical results
  • professionals of enormous quality
  • a totally satisfying patient experience

Sometimes it is a long road and, as in any medical treatment, there may be doubts and fears that do not completely disappear until we have our healthy baby in our arms.

This has been, is and will continue to be the primary objective at IVI: that each of our patients can fully trust us, at each stage of treatment, until they achieve their dream.

What tools do we have to achieve it?

To achieve this objective, for years we have been developing projects that have allowed us to be certified in the Spanish Standard for Patient Risk Management.

In these projects there are three key aspects that have allowed us to place ourselves where we are now:

– the use of new technological tools

– the design of new processes

– the improvement of those that already exist

When we talk about technology, we refer for example to the use of automatic traceability witness, which allow us to verify the identity of the patient, as well as her gametes and embryos, during the entire treatment.

As to the processes, the most effective way to reduce the risk of an unwanted situation is to leave nothing to chance and supervise every step of the way. All treatments and techniques what we do are protocolized, so that any of our professionals has clear and defined guidelines to act at all times.

In addition to this, we work on broader fronts, such as the fact of offer continuous training to our professionals that allows them to anticipate any of the risk situations that our patients may face.

Also, as a group, we develop and we apply global policies in our clinics that seek to protect patients. A clear example would be transfer of a single embryo, to avoid multiple pregnancies and thus reduce the risks to the mother or the baby.

Another good example is found in the management of our donors, to whom we do genetic studies of carriers of diseases, to avoid the possibility of transmission.

With all these actions, at IVI we pursue the objective of avoiding any type of unwanted eventuality that may have a negative impact, both physical and mental, on patients when performing a treatment.

IVI’s commitment to patient safety

The entire human team of IVI is firmly committed to this objective and we are sure that the effort we make every day returns to the benefit of our patients..

Responsibility and transparency when acting quickly in unfavorable situations such as the recent pandemic allows us to move forward with the best guarantees for patients, workers and society in general.

From IVI, we will remain committed to the safety of each of our patients until they achieve their dream.
