The Josep Carreras and Debra Foundation

Teaming is one of the first social action initiatives launched by IVI in 2008 after a strong commitment to sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This charitable initiative consists of voluntary micro donations of one euro per month from the Human Team, an amount that is doubled by the IVI Foundation. In this way, people are at the center of Sustainability as they drive and promote Social Action in the company. in such a way that the spirit of commitment is fostered and professionals are placed at the center of Corporate Social Responsibility.

In the coming weeks, Teaming 2022 will be launched, where IVI employees present their projects and choose the winning project or projects themselves.

In the last edition, those selected were the Josep Carreras Foundation with its project “No child with Leukemia” and the Debra – Butterfly Skin Association.

Why the Josep Carreras Foundation?

The Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute has more than 33 lines of research open, as well as nearly 400 pioneering researchers in their field. In addition, it is the first center in Europe dedicated exclusively to the study of malignant blood diseases. The project “No child with leukemia” is part of one of the lines of action of the Josep Carreras Foundationin the field of scientific research.

It is clear that the foundation works to promote the health and well-being of the entire society. In fact, his Teaming winning project aims to make leukemia and other oncological blood diseases one day 100% curable. And for this, research is paramount. At IVI, research is a fundamental pillar, which is why we are committed to projects where research is the key to social change.

Project No child with Leukemia

“If they tell you that 2 out of 10 children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia do not manage to overcome the disease, it may seem like an optimistic statistic to you. But if you imagine that behind that number there are names and surnames, which could be those of your little one or mine, the number takes on another dimension”, they comment from the Josep Carreras Foundation.

With these powerful words, from the foundation they make us see how important this project is. The objective of “No child with Leukemia” is clear: that leukemia and other oncological diseases of the blood are one day 100% curable, and for that research is necessary.

Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer and accounts for 30% of pediatric cancers. 20% of children with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) will not overcome the disease during the first 5 years after diagnosis. Dr. Javierre – center researcher – has managed to develop a new technique that allows for the first time to know which are the genome sequences that regulate the activity of each gene in each cell type. This is intended to discover new, more effective treatments with fewer sequelae against this type of childhood leukemia, thus improving their well-being and quality of life.

Get to know the association Debra – Butterfly Skin

Epidermolysis bullosa, better known as Butterfly Skin, is a rare, chronic and incurable disease. Due to a genetic mutation, the “glue” that binds the various layers of the skin fails, so it detaches and breaks with the slightest touch. 1 in 227 people is a carrier of this disease, so it can break into any family unexpectedly.

The association constantly goes out of its way to guarantee free access to certain benefits of the health system, promoting measures that reduce the impact of the disease on the health and quality of life of patients, thus helping their integration into society.

under the motto “Your support gives them wings. Put yourself in their shoes.” Debra calls on the entire population to become aware of how critical and isolating this disease can be, not only in the lives of those affected, but also in that of family and friends.

What is the role of Debra – Butterfly Skin?

IVI Donation to Butterfly Skin

from the association Debra – Butterfly Skin They try to ease the hard road of living with this disease. That is why the association’s actions range from psychological support and training for family members and health professionals to the co-financing of research projects.

Debra is focused on claiming rights for these families before the Public Administrations. We speak from free access to healing materials to the inclusion of prenatal and preimplantation diagnosis of this disease. In addition, it also fights for Social Security to include early care, treatment for those affected and psychological and psychiatric care for the sick and their families.

IVI and Objective 3: Health and well-being

Both the association Debra – Piel de Mariposa and the Josep Carreras Foundation focus their attention on the third of the SDGs: Health & Wellness, also a priority for IVI. This third objective is based on guaranteeing a healthy life and promoting well-being at all ages for sustainable development.

As IVI is an institution dedicated to life, and, above all, thanks to all the employees who were encouraged to participate in the Teaming, IVI has contributed its grain of sand to both the Josep Carreras Foundation and the Debra – Piel association of butterfly to advance in the achievement of its wonderful projects.

The vision of both organizations is that, in the not too distant future, no one in the world will suffer from Butterfly Skin, as well as completely eradicating childhood leukemia.

IVI’s vision of Sustainability stems from listening to stakeholders, especially the Human Team, which is why the new Teaming 2022 will be launched soon with the following motto: “Many small people in small places doing small things can change the world”.
